There might be situations where you have converted a resource to serialized inventory, but you have not included all of your existing assets in the conversion. Or, some of the assets that were linked to the resource did not have an asset status that was matched to the inventory status of “Spare,” “Working,” or “Awaiting Repair Action” and were not converted. You can link an asset and create a serialized resource unit from the resource.

To Add a Unit for a “Found” Asset

This checklist outlines the procedures to follow if you are adding units in APM that were missed when you set up serialized inventory support. Follow the links for detailed instructions on each step.

If the asset exists and is not yet linked to the resource, you can link the asset and create a new unit at the same time. This is the easiest method to use to link existing assets with various statuses. See Linking Existing Assets to Units After a Resource is Serialized.

If you have found a unit that is in the repair shop or was sent for external repairs, you can create a unit with the status ‘Awaiting Repair Action’. This will allow you to complete the repair cycle and then stock the unit. After you have created the unit, you can link it to an asset with a matching status. See Creating a Unit to Be Repaired.

When you have an asset and unit with matching statuses, you can link the unit to the asset. For more information, see Linking Assets to Serialized Units From the Asset.

If both the asset and the unit already exist, you can link them when the statuses are matched. You can make the asset status equivalent to the inventory status ‘Spare,’ or issue the unit and change the unit’s status to ‘Working’ or ‘Repair on site’. For example, if the asset was ‘found’ in the repair shop, both the asset and the unit must have the ‘Repair On Site’ status. After you have an asset and unit with matching statuses, you can link the unit to the asset. For more information, see Linking Assets to Serialized Units From the Asset.
