Creating a Work Request

If you need to submit a request for a job to be done, you can create a work request. On the work request, you can enter all of the information that you have about the job. If your site requires approvals, you must send the work request for approval, before a work planner can turn the work request into a work order and then plan and schedule the work.
Work requests can be created on projects, on the action plans of strategy development analyses, and from scratch. This topic explains how to create a work request from scratch on the site’s Work Management view.
If the site’s approval settings determine that work requests require approval, see Sending Work Requests for Approval.
Tip: You can print a work request report that lists the asset information, request details, and description. On the Work Request menu, click Print and then Work Request Form.

To Create a Work Request

1.
On the Site window, select the Work Management view, Work Requests tab.
2.
Click New. The Work Request window appears.
3.
4.
Select a failure mode or problem, if defined for the asset. If failure modes were defined for the asset during strategy development analysis, you can browse for the failure mode. Otherwise, you can select a problem if standard problems exist for the asset.
Note: If you select a failure mode or problem, APM uses its name as the title for the request. The failure mode or problem’s description is copied to the Description box. You can change the title and description as needed.
5.
On the Details tab, add work information for the request:
The estimated cost of the work request. If you know the cost of the work, you can enter it here. If approval is required for the work request, this information will be displayed on the approval request.
6.
On the Project tab, you can link the work request to an existing project. Click Browse, select the project, and click OK. The project number and title are added to the tab. You can select the appropriate work breakdown structure from the WBS list. When the work request is saved, information about it is added to the project.
Note: If the work request was created from a project, select the Project tab to view the project’s number and title. You can select the appropriate WBS from the list.
7.
On the Source tab, in the Requested by box, enter the name of the employee requesting the work. To search for the employee, click Browse. Select the employee in the Employee Selector dialog and click OK.
8.
Select the Comments tab to add and view work request comments.
