Unplanned Work Order Policy

You can set a rule that determines whether or not users can perform activities on unplanned work orders. An unplanned work order is a work order with a status of New or In Planning. A work order is considered to be planned when either it has been approved (if approval is required) or the Mark as Planned option has been used.

The options for the policy are:

•	Do not allow activity on work orders on which planning has not been completed.

•	Allow activity, but always warn the user first that planning has not been completed on the work order.

•	Allow activity and do not warn the user

If you select “Do not allow activity”, users cannot perform the following actions on unplanned tasks:

•	Creating activity reports

•	Closing a work order or task

•	Creating transactions (timecards, issues, swaps, transfers, and so on)

•	Scheduling a work order or task

•	Creating a pick list

•	Creating a requisition

•	Creating purchase orders

•	Downloading a checksheet to a mobile device

•	Entering indicator readings

Note: In a multi-site implementation, the unplanned work rule can be set differently for each site.

Impact on Purchase Orders, Requisitions, and Resource Transactions

On a purchase order line, requisition, and resource transaction, you can select the work order and task to charge. If you select the “Do not allow activity” option, users cannot select unplanned work orders as the work order to charge. This means that you cannot charge purchase orders, requisitions, or transactions to unapproved work orders. The work order selector dialog (the dialog that is displayed when you click the Browse button) filters out any work orders that are not planned.

Impact on Schedules

If you select the “Do not allow activity” option, users cannot schedule tasks from an unplanned work order. This means that:

•	Users cannot select unplanned work order tasks on a schedule entry.

•	On an open schedule, the Tasks, By Week, By Maintenance Group, and Work Orders backlog pages exclude work orders that are not planned.
