Editing Properties for the Top Site

Once you have defined your site types in APM, you are ready to set up the top site in your site hierarchy.
APM comes pre-configured with one Install Site. For APM to work correctly, the Install Site needs to be the top site in your site hierarchy. You can change its name to represent your head office or the name of your organization if you have only one location/site. This topic explains how to edit the properties of the Install Site.
Note: In order for taxes to be computed correctly on purchase orders, the applicable locality, state or province, and country must be set for each site.
The top site should have all of the licensed application modules activated to ensure that lower-level sites have access to value lists owned at the top site.

Select the Install Site

In the Enterprise window, select the Sites view, Site Hierarchy tab.

Right-click the Install Site and click Site Properties. The Site Properties dialog appears.

Click Edit to open the dialog for editing.
Note: The CMMS tab is displayed if CMMS integration or interoperability is active. For information about using it, see the integration guide for the integration plugin you are using or APM Interoperability Guide for SAP Plant Maintenance.

On the General tab, fill out the following:

Description
Site name
Edit this to be the name of your organization or the name of your head office if you are using multiple sites.
Type
By default, the Install Site uses the Corporate Type. Do not change the selected site type. This must be the site type that represents the top level in your site hierarchy. Only one site, the top site, should use this site type.
Parent site
Because this is the top site in your hierarchy, do not assign it to a parent site.
Hierarchy code
A hierarchy code is a string of up to 10 letters and numbers that identifies an individual asset or site. APM uses the hierarchy code for the asset, its parent assets, and the site to create the hierarchy location.
Hierarchy location
A hierarchy location is a string of letters and numbers that identifies where the asset is in the physical hierarchy.
APM constructs a full hierarchy location using the code that you enter in the Hierarchy code box joined with the hierarchy codes for its parent/ancestors. The codes are separated by a period (.). Hierarchy locations are updated whenever the asset or one of its ancestors is moved within the hierarchy (or if a hierarchy code changes).
Region
The geographical region associated with the site, for example, “North sea” or “Southern Ontario”.
Category
The category associated with the site. Site categories are specific to your organization.
Group
The group associated with the site. Site groups are specific to your organization.
Location
Describe the physical location of the asset or site.

If you know the longitude and latitude of the asset’s location, enter them in the Map coordinates boxes. Otherwise, you can click the browse icon and point to the location on a map to have APM assign the coordinates. For more information, see Setting Map Coordinates.

Complete the following information:

Entering site statuses is optional. If you enter a site status, this status will be visible in your physical asset hierarchy.
To change the site’s status, click Change.
Currency
The currency used at this site. By default this is the enterprise currency.
If appropriate, you can change the site currency by clicking Change. Usually you will select the currency of the country where the site is located.
Time zone
The time zone at this site. By default this is the top site’s time zone. If the Time zone field is blank, APM looks up the site hierarchy to find the first site with a time zone.
If the Site Time Zones feature is enabled, you can open an existing site’s Properties dialog and click Change to assign a different site time zone.
Value list control
If you are using site-specific value lists (for example, asset types or maintenance groups), the value list control determines either the site where all value lists are maintained or the value lists that are maintained at the current site.

Select the Address tab.

Provide the following information.
Setting Name
Description
Street or Office/area
Street name and number or the office area.
City
The city where the address is located. You can enter up to 50 characters.
State or province
The state or province where the address is located. Once you have selected the country, only states or provinces located in that country appear in the list.
Country
The country where the address is located.
Postal code
The postal code or zip code for this address. If a mask has been created for the postal code or zip code, you do not need to format the code. APM automatically enters any spaces or hyphens necessary. As well, APM warns you if you enter a code that does not match the format for the country where the address is located.
Phone Number
Enter the site’s main telephone number and extension.
Fax Number
Enter the site’s fax number and extension.

Select the Modules tab. Select all of the available modules. This ensures that lower-level sites have access to value lists owned at the top site. For example:

Select the Image tab.

The file path of the image (where the image file is located on the network).
Note: The Status Changes tab lists previous site status changes. This tab is for information only and does not contain any settings that you can modify.
