Setting up Repair Cycle Automation

When you send a serialized resource unit for repair, you should manage the repair process with an APM work order. This applies whether you are repairing the units internally or externally. You can create repair work orders manually, or you can have APM automatically create work orders whenever a unit of the resource is issued from inventory. Work orders are created following the issue transaction because, usually, a unit is issued to replace a failed unit.

There are two ways to repair a serialized resource unit:

•	Internally by your in-house repair shop

•	Externally by an outside supplier

If a resource is repaired externally, when APM creates an automatic repair work order for a unit of the resource, the system includes a purchase demand for the repair on the work order. To automatically create repair work orders, you must designate a task template for the system to use.

For external repairs, you can also have the system automatically mark the repair work order as being completed after the repaired unit is received from the supplier. You can select the completion status to use when the repair work order is marked as complete. Work planners can then officially close the work order after reviewing it in their list of completed work.

To set up repair cycle automation, you must enter the automation settings that you want on each serialized resource. Each resource can use different settings.

To Set Repair Cycle Automation on a Resource

1.	From the Site window, select the Resource Management view.

2.	Find the serialized resource and double-click it to open it. The Resource window appears.

3.	On the Properties view, select the Repair Process tab. This tab is only available if serialized unit support has been activated for the resource.

4.	Select an option for the creation of work orders:

Select from the following options: • A repair order is not automatically generated: Users must manually create repair work orders to complete the repair cycle. • External repairs - a work order is created automatically when a unit is issued: Select this option if the resource will be repaired by an outside supplier and you want the system to automatically create the repair work order. You must select the task template for the system to use when creating the work order. • Internal repairs - a work order is created automatically when a unit is issued: Select this option if the resource will be repaired by your in-house repair shop, and you want the system to automatically create the repair work order. You must select the task template for the system to use when creating the work order.

Task Template

Select the task template that the system will use when creating repair work orders for this resource.

5.	Select the option for the automatic completion of external repair work orders:

Update Repair Work Status

Select whether or not you want APM to automatically mark work orders for external repairs as complete. APM will mark work orders as being complete when the repaired unit is received from the supplier.

Completion Status to Use

Select the completion status for the system to use when marking external repair work orders as being complete.

6.	When you are finished completing the repair options, Close the Resource window.
