Sending an RCA for Approval

APM supports the approval of root cause analyses. Your site’s approval settings determine if analyses require approval. If the approval process is enabled for RCA, it is typically used to vet the root cause analysis before the failure mode analysis is created or requested.
The analysis status determines if the RCA is ready to be sent for approval, as well as whether failure mode analyses can be created or requested. Depending on your site settings, certain actions (such as changing the RCA diagram) might not be allowed when an analysis is waiting for approval, approved, or rejected.
Tip: To view information about the analysis’ approval requests, select the History view and the Approvals tab. Information about the current and historical requests is displayed.
This topic explains how to send an analysis to be approved.

To Send an RCA for Approval

1.
Open the analysis you want to send for approval. Click the RCA menu and then Send for Approval. The Send for Approval dialog appears.
Tip: You can also select the site’s Strategy Development or Performance Management view, RCA tab. Right-click the analysis and click Send for Approval.
2.
Select the Approval Route from the list. Only approval routes that are valid for root cause analyses are listed.
3.
Enter a comment, if you wish. Requester comments are displayed in the site’s Approvers view, Requests tab, as well as in the Approval Request window in the Request Info tab.
4.
To have APM automatically send an email to the originator when all approvers have reviewed the request, select Yes, send an email when the approval process is complete.
5.
Click Send for Approval. The approval request is sent to the first approver on the approval route selected and the approval status is updated (shown in the History view, Approvals tab). If an analysis status is linked to the event, the analysis status is updated.
