Setting up Serialized Unit Statuses for Tools

The serialized inventory status tracks the status of a unit for inventory purposes.
There are 10 required statuses that track serialized inventory. You can create descriptions for the unit statuses and change the name APM provides. You cannot delete any of the required 10 unit statuses or add new statuses.
For tools, you must match the following statuses:
When you post a resource transaction for a serialized unit, the unit status changes. For example, an issue transaction changes the unit status from “On hand” to “Issued”. When the unit’s status changes, APM changes the asset status to the one that has been set up to match the unit status.
For example, a tool is currently in inventory. The unit status is “On hand” and is matched to the asset status “Available” with the operational status “not in operation and available for use”. The tool is issued. On the issue transaction, the unit status changes to “Issued”. Since the “Issued” unit status is linked to the maintainable asset status “In service” with the operational status “unavailable”, the tool’s asset status is set to “In service - unavailable”.
Before you begin defining the inventory statuses, you should ensure that appropriate asset statuses exist in the system. To define asset statuses, please see **Setting up Asset Statuses.

APM recommends that you set up a separate asset status to match each inventory unit status. However, you can match one asset status to multiple unit statuses. The lists are filtered to display only operational asset statuses that will work with the unit status.
Tip: To create a new asset status, right-click the asset status box and click New.
