Setting Policies for Indicator Readings

Users can enter ad hoc indicator readings (that is, readings that are not collected using a checksheet) at any time. You can prevent users from entering ad hoc readings for indicators that are collected from an online data source, calculated using a formula, or manually collected using the options described in this topic.

You can also specify the number of readings to keep in the recent readings list for each indicator. When data is downloaded to a mobile computer, only this number of the most recent readings are included.

Finally, you can change the indicator reading compliance horizon from the default of 15 days. The horizon is used with indicators that have collection windows. For example, it determines the number of readings represented in compliance charts and helps planners forecast the indicators that are coming due for collection. If the early collection date is in the future but the current date is within the horizon, the indicator’s collection status is “Coming due”. The horizon is also used to filter indicators in standard table configurations.

Note: After changing the compliance horizon, update configurations, charts, and so on by clicking the Tools menu, Indicators, and then Update Collection Window Status.

Tip: If your organization maintains collection windows for indicators, set up the Update Indicator Collection Window Status scheduled action to refresh the system at regular intervals. See Creating a Scheduled Action.

To Set Indicator Reading Policies

1.	From the Site window, select the Inspection Management view, the Settings tab, and then the Indicators tab. Select the Indicator Settings node in the tree.

Tip: You can also click the Administration menu, Inspection Management Settings, and then Indicator Management. The Indicator Settings window appears.

2.	Select the Data Collection tab and then the Readings tab.

3.	Click Edit to modify the site settings. The Edit button is replaced by the Save button.

4.	Select the appropriate options:

Indicators calculated using a formula

Select this option to allow users to enter ad hoc readings for indicators that are normally calculated using a formula. If this option is cleared, the Enter reading option (on the indicator’s Tools or right-click menu) will not be available for calculated indicators.

Indicators collected manually using work orders, checksheets or mobile devices

Select this option to allow users to enter ad hoc readings for indicators that are normally entered manually (through work order activity reports, checksheets, or mobile devices). If this option is cleared, the Enter reading option (on the indicator’s Tools or right-click menu) will not be available for manually-collected indicators.

Indicators collected from an online data source

Select this option to allow users to enter ad hoc readings for indicators that are normally collected from an online data source. If this option is cleared, the Enter reading option (on the indicator’s Tools or right-click menu) will not be available for online indicators.

Number to keep in list

The number of indicator readings to keep in the recent readings list for each indicator. When data is downloaded to a mobile computer, only this number of the most recent readings are included.

Horizon

Amount of time (in days, hours, months, weeks, or years) used to track the collection status of indicators with collection windows. The horizon is also used to filter indicators in standard table configurations.
