Setting up Gas Types

Gas types identify the classifications of controlled gases and specify their units of measure and default container types, as well as the sites where they are available. You can also identify the template to use when APM creates indicator readings for transactions that reference this gas type.

To Set up a Gas Type

1.
In the Site window, select the Regulated Gas Management view and the Settings tab. Select the Regulated Gas Management Settings node in the tree.
Tip: You can also select the Administration menu and then Regulated Gas Management Settings. The Regulated Gas Management Settings dialog appears.

Select the Gas Types tab. This tab shows the types defined for the enterprise.

Click New. The Gas Type Properties dialog appears:

Provide the following information:
Setting Name
Description
Gas type ID
Short identifier that your organization uses for the gas type.
Gas type
Name of the gas type.
Abbreviation
Short form for the identifier, which appears in some locations.
Sequence
Its sequence number determines the object’s position in lists.
Unit of measure
Units in which the gas is measured, for example, pound or cubic foot.
Default container type
Container in which the gas is typically stored. When this gas type is selected for a new container, the default container type is copied to the container.
Site
Site where this gas type is available. If a site is not identified, the gas type is available throughout the enterprise.
Create indicator readings for this gas type’s transactions
When this option is selected, gas transaction types that both reference this gas type and create indicator readings will use the specified indicator template to create readings from transactions that also reference an asset.
Template to use
The indicator template used to create indicator readings. If an indicator does not already exist for the transaction’s asset, APM creates it as well as the reading.

Select the Description tab to add more information.

Click OK. The dialog closes and the type is added to the Gas Types tab.
Tip: You can return to the Gas Type Properties dialog in the future to view a list of containers and transactions for the gas type. Select the Containers and Transactions tabs.
