Setting up Analysis Types

An analysis type is a collection of preferred settings for strategy development analysis. The settings range from specifying how analysis titles are defaulted, to how avoidance savings are recorded on failure modes, to how risk analysis is performed (if at all), to whether analyses must be sent for approval. Selecting an analysis type on an analysis quickly ensures that its settings are correct and consistent with your organization’s standards.
When defining an analysis type, you can specify the kinds of analysis it can be used with: MTA2, RCM2, RBI, CPR, SIF, HAZOP, Design FMECA, or a combination. For example, you could create two types for MTA2, one with risk analysis and one without. Or you could create a type that applies to both MTA2 and RBI analyses.
Note: You can also create analysis types for asset prioritization and asset condition analysis. See Setting up Analysis Types for Asset Prioritization and Setting up Analysis Types for Asset Condition Analysis.
Default analysis types can be assigned to each of the varieties of analysis. When a user creates an MTA2, for example, its default analysis type determines the predefined settings and options in the analysis. When a default type has not been designated, the user can select an analysis type to quickly set up the analysis options. In either case, the user can change the default selections as required for the analysis.
Tip: The analysis type is shown in the banner of the Strategy Development Analysis window of each analysis that uses that type. The analysis type is also displayed in tables and analysis reports.
You can set the following kinds of options in an analysis type:
Note: Site filtering rules for analysis team members is a “generally available” product feature. You must first enable feature 97 to use the functionality in APM. In the Enterprise window, select the Features view and the Enabled Features tab. Click Browse, select “Support site filtering rules for analysis members” and click OK. If APM is running as a smart client, click Refresh Enabled Features on the server. Then restart the client to use the functionality.
Failure mode options – For example, hide or show the Failure mode identification area and Failure mode note sidebar in Maintenance Action Plan windows. Set options for avoidance savings and maintenance cost feasibility and set options for indicator search values. You can also set UI formatting options that determine what tabs are displayed in the Maintenance Action Plan window
For more information, see Setting Failure Mode Options for Analysis Types
For more information, see Setting Risk Analysis Options for Analysis Types
You can double-click the report icon to open the file.
On the Audit Reports tab, you can enable this feature, select the report format, and select report types for each of the kinds of analysis.
You can also view the history of the analysis type. The History tab displays changes to the type and includes the user responsible for the change, the date, and the before and after values of the property that changed.
Tip: Click Where Used at the bottom of the Asset Analysis Type window when you wish to see lists of the analyses, studies, and asset prioritization analyses that use the type.
