Setting up Probability of Failure Criteria

Probability criteria can be used with a criteria matrix to provide a detailed assessment of an asset’s probability of failure in the context of an asset prioritization analysis. Analysts can select appropriate examples, such as “extreme heat” for the operating environment criteria. APM uses the score assigned to the example to calculate the probability of failure.
Note: To use this functionality in APM, you must first enable feature 39. In the Enterprise window, select the Customization Center view and the Enabled Features tab. Click Browse, select “Criteria based probability evaluation on an asset prioritization analysis”, and click OK. If APM is running as a smart client, click Refresh Enabled Features on the server. Then restart the client to use the functionality.
This topic explains how to create criteria. It explains:

Anatomy of a Criterion

When setting up each criterion (for example, operating environment, age, or material), provide details with scores. The higher the score, the more probable the failure. For example:
Provide an example for each detail to help with selection. For example:

How Criteria are Used

When performing the assessment, the analyst selects the Probability tab and a criterion in the top table to view its examples in the table below. The analyst can assign the appropriate example to the criterion to enter its score. For example:
When the Calculate Scores function is triggered, APM calculates the probability of failure based on the selection policy defined in the analysis type. Selection methods are highest ranking, sum of selections, lowest ranking, or probability criteria matrix.
For information about the criteria matrix, see Setting up a Probability of Failure Criteria Matrix.

To Create a Probability of Failure Criterion

1.
From the Site window, select the Strategy Development view, Settings tab. Select the Prioritization tab and the Asset prioritization settings node in the tree.
Tip: You can also select the Administration menu, Strategy Development Settings, and then Asset Prioritization. The Asset Prioritization Settings dialog appears.
2.
Select the Failure Probabilities tab and the Analysis Criteria tab.
3.
Click New. The Probability of Failure Criterion Properties dialog appears:
4.
5.
6.
7.
For each detail you wish to add, click New. The Probability of Failure Criterion Detail dialog appears:
8.
9.
10.
For each example that you wish to add, click New. The Probability of Failure Criterion Example Properties dialog appears:
11.

Click OK to save the value and close the dialog.
14.
When you have finished adding examples, click OK to close the Probability of Failure Criterion Detail dialog. In the Probability of Failure Criterion Properties dialog, you can select the Examples tab to see a list.
15.
When you have finished adding criteria, click OK to close the Probability of Failure Criterion Properties dialog.
