Setting up Degradation Mechanisms

A degradation mechanism describes the kind of deterioration that can lead to asset failure. Examples are corrosion, mechanical failure, and vibration damage. This topic explains how to set up a degradation mechanism.

To Set up a Degradation Mechanism

1.	On the site’s Strategy Development view, select the Settings tab. Select the Damage Mechanisms tab and the Damage mechanisms settings node in the tree.

Tip: You can also select the site’s Administration menu, Strategy Development Settings, and then Damage Mechanism Library. The Damage Mechanisms Management Settings dialog appears.

2.	Select the Degradation and the Mechanisms tabs.

3.	For each of the degradation mechanisms required by your organization, click New. The Degradation Mechanism dialog appears.

4.	Provide a descriptive name for the mechanism, for example, vibration damage.

5.	Enter a description of the degradation mechanism.

6.	Click OK. The dialog closes and the mechanism is added to the table.
