Undoing Alarm Acknowledgments

If necessary, you can undo the acknowledgment of an indicator warning or alarm. This action is only possible if the following statements are true:

•	The status of the indicator’s most recent reading is “acknowledged”

•	If APM work documents are used to acknowledge alarms, the most recent acknowledgment’s work request or work order is still open

If a failure record was created when the alarm was acknowledged, the failure is deleted when the acknowledgment is reversed. You can also cancel a request for a follow-up reading.

When an acknowledgment is reversed, APM does the following:

•

If the indicator was acknowledged using a work order or a work request and the document is still open, APM checks if the document acknowledges any other indicators. If this is the case, APM removes the indicator reading from the list of readings that the work document acknowledges. If the work document does not acknowledge any other indicator readings, APM cancels it

•	If the indicator was acknowledged using an SAP maintenance order or notification, APM automatically sends an email to the contact in the maintenance planning department. This contact and the email messages are stored in the interoperability site profile and settings.

•	The acknowledgment information associated with the reading is removed

•	The alarm or warning that was originally raised on the indicator is turned on

•	The status of the most recent reading is set to “Waiting for acknowledgment”

•	If a failure record was created when acknowledging the alarm, the failure record is deleted

•	If a request for a follow-up reading was created when acknowledging the alarm, the request is deleted

Note: If you flag an acknowledged alarm reading as incorrect and then wish to re-acknowledge the alarm, remove the incorrect reading flag. This returns the indicator to an alarm state. The same procedure is required for alarms that were acknowledged with other methods and then marked as incorrect readings. For more information, see Undoing an Incorrect Reading Flag.

To Undo an Acknowledgment with an APM Work Document

1.	Locate the indicator with the acknowledged reading. For example, in the Asset window, select the Inspection Management view, Readings tab, and By Indicator tab.

2.	Right-click the indicator and click Undo Acknowledgment. The Undo Acknowledgment dialog appears.

3.	If the alarm was acknowledged with a work request or work order, the work document is displayed on the dialog. To cancel the work document, select the cancellation option and then select a reason from the list.

Note: You can only cancel work requests or work orders that are still open.

4.	If a request for a follow-up reading was created for the acknowledgment, you can cancel it by selecting Cancel follow up reading request.

To Undo an Acknowledgment with an SAP Work Document

1.	Locate the indicator with the acknowledged reading. For example, in the Asset window, select the Inspection Management view, Readings tab, and By Indicator tab.

2.	Right-click the indicator and click Undo Acknowledgment. The Undo Acknowledgment dialog appears.

3.	The maintenance order or notification is displayed in the SAP document area.

4.	Select the cancellation reason from the list.

5.	Ensure that the contact information is correct. This information is stored in the site’s interoperability settings.

6.	If a request for a follow-up reading was created for the acknowledgment, you can cancel it by selecting Cancel follow up reading request.
