Adding Attachments to an Indicator Reading

You can attach the following types of objects to an indicator reading in the Microsoft® Windows® environment:

•	File: You can attach files with standard formats. If the file is not on a shared network drive, you can select Embedded so that other users can access it.

•	Folder: You can attach any folder. Folder contents cannot be embedded. If you attach a folder, ensure that it will be available to other users to view (that is, it is shared on your network). When a user views this attachment, the system displays it in a Windows Explorer window.

•	Note: You can enter any text and attach it to the object. When you select this option, enter your text in the Note box.

•	URL: You can enter any URL to attach to the object. For example, you could enter a web page address or a local network path. When a user views this attachment, the system displays it in the default Web browser.

Note: On mobile devices, you can only attach a single file to any one indicator reading.

To Add Attachments to an Indicator Reading

1.	Find the indicator reading to which you want to add an attachment. You can add attachments to readings listed in a checksheet or to readings listed on the site or on an asset.

2.	Right-click the reading, click Attachments and then New. The Attachment dialog appears.

3.	Select the type of attachment and enter the appropriate information:

The type of object being attached. You can select from: • File: You can attach files with standard formats. File	Enter the path to the file that you want to attach. To browse for the file, click . On the Open dialog, the Supported Files list displays the acceptable formats. If the file is not on a shared network drive, you should embed it so that other users can access it.

Folder

Enter the path to the folder that you want to attach. To browse for the folder, click . Folder contents cannot be embedded. If you attach a folder, ensure that it will be available to other users to view (that is, it is shared on your network). When a user views this attachment, the system displays it in a Windows® Explorer window.

URL	Enter the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) that you want to attach. For example, you could enter a web page address or a local network path. When a user views this attachment, the system displays it in the default Web browser (for example, Microsoft® Internet Explorer).

Embedded

If you are attaching a file that is not available on a shared network drive, select this option. Embedding the file copies it to the APM database so that anyone with access to the object can open the attachment. Once you set this option, you cannot later turn it off. This option is only available for file-type attachments.

Description

Enter a descriptive title for this attachment. This title will be used when displaying the list of items attached to this object.

Note	Enter the text that you want to attach to the object. The text will be displayed when a user views the list of attachments for the object.

4.	When you are finished, click OK. The system adds the attachment to the indicator reading.
