Including or Excluding Columns in Quick Searches

By default, when the quick search bar is turned on, all of the text string columns are made available to search. However, you can turn off the search feature for individual columns. In addition, for each column you can set whether it is included in the default quick search, or not.

Note: Quick search only applies to string columns. This means, for example, that it cannot be used to search columns that contain dates, currency amounts, or value lists.

To Include or Exclude Columns in Quick Searches

1.	Open the configuration. The Configuration dialog appears.

2.	On the Columns tab, double-click the column that you want to edit. The Column Properties dialog appears.

3.	Select the Search Bar tab.

4.	Enter the appropriate settings:

Select this option to add this column to the list of columns that can be searched from the quick search bar, or clear the option to remove the column from the list. By default, when the quick search bar is turned on, all text string columns in the configuration are available to search. However, you can turn off the search feature for individual columns. For example, if a column is hidden, you might not want to include it in quick searches.

Search this column by default

Select this option if you want the column to be searched by default when users run quick searches. For example, in a configuration that has 10 text string columns, you might want all of them to be available for searches, but normally you only want to search on one or two. If a column is not set up to be searched by default, users must select the column manually when using the quick search bar.

5.	Click OK to save your changes and close the dialog.
