Canceling a Failure Record

Failure records that were entered in error can be canceled. For example, if a duplicate failure record was created for the same failure or further investigation reveals that a failure did not occur, you might wish to cancel the failure record. Canceling a failure removes the failure record from the asset’s failure history. Any downtime incidents that were created for the failure are not affected when the failure record is canceled.
Failure statistics are not calculated for canceled failures. Canceled failures are not used as the basis for the calculation of the failure statistics on other failures. If another failure record is using the failure as the basis for its statistics (that is, another failure record has already been entered and uses the canceled failure to determine its TBF and TBR), the failure statistics are recalculated when the cancellation is complete.
This topic explains how to cancel a failure record manually. Failures are canceled automatically when they are created when acknowledging an alarm and the acknowledgment is later undone. They are also canceled when created from an indicator reading that is marked as “fixed during inspection” and the indicator reading is later marked as incorrect.

To Cancel a Failure Record

1.
On the site’s Performance Management view, select the Failures and Downtime tab and then the Failures tab.
2.
Right-click the failure and select Cancel Failure. The Cancel Failure dialog appears.
Note: To cancel a resolved failure, you must reopen it first. For more information, see Reopening a Failure Record.
Tip: You can also open the Failure or Anomaly window, select the Failure menu, and then click Cancel Failure.
3.
4.
Click OK. The failure record’s status is changed to Canceled.
