Entering Planning Information for a Standard Task

A task’s general planning information includes the start and completion dates, estimated duration, and the date by which materials are required. You can enter the name of the planner, select the shutdown type, and select or change the primary trade for the task. You can also add the material, labor (trade and service), and tool requirements for the task.

This topic explains how to enter information relating to the task’s dates and labor and material requirements.

To Enter Planning Information for a Standard Task

1.	Open the standard task.

2.	Make sure that editing is enabled.

3.	Select the Planning tab. This tab shows planning information, including the list of requirements currently selected for the task. The tab is available only if the task’s work type includes planning information.

4.	Enter the following planning information for the task:

Setting Name

Description

Planner

The name of the employee who is responsible for planning this task. This information appears on work order tasks created from this task.

Primary trade

If trades have been added to the task, the system selects the first trade added as the primary trade for the task. This reference allows you to sort and filter lists of tasks by primary trade.

Estimated duration

The approximate length of time that it takes to complete the task. APM uses this information when a task is placed on a schedule. You can enter an estimated duration, or APM can calculate the duration based on the trade, tool, or time-based service requirements. To enter a duration, clear the Calculate option.

Calculate

The system calculates the task’s estimated duration. APM sets the task’s estimated duration to the trade, tool, or service requirement with the longest total duration (Lag time plus the Required for time). For example, suppose a task has three trade requirements: • One mechanic: 4 hours, 0 lag (4 hours total) • One electrician: 2 hours, 3 hour lag (5 hours total) • One mechanic: 2 hours, 5 hour lag (7 hours total) The third requirement has the longest combined required for and lag time. As a result, when the estimated duration is calculated, the system sets task’s duration to seven hours. Alternatively, clear the Calculate option to enter the estimated duration.

Material is Required

The number of days that all material requirements are needed before the task is planned to start. APM uses this number to calculate a Material Required By date on work order tasks created from this standard task.

Shutdown type

The type of shutdown during which this task is normally used. This setting is copied onto each work order task created (manually or triggered) from this task. You can use this setting to identify work that has been planned for a particular shutdown.

Limit scheduled duration to

Amount of time per shift to be spent on this task.

6.	Save and close the standard task.
