Completing Component Swapping Information

When you plan the removal and installation of repairable spares, you need to issue the new serialized unit before you can install it in its new location. For more information on issuing serialized units, see Issuing Serialized Units.
Note: If you remove a component that has an indicator in alarm, this alarm will need to be acknowledged separately for both the location and the component.
In order to swap a component, you can remove the component, install a new component, or remove and install a component.
This topic describes how to complete a component swap.

To Complete a Component Swap

1.
On the Component Activity dialog, select either Remove a component, Install a component, or Remove and install a component in the Type of component activity area.

If you selected Remove a component or Remove and Install a component, select the Removal tab and enter the following information:
Setting Name
Description
Component
The component that will be removed. You can enter the number of the component asset, or browse to select a component asset in the selector dialog, and then click OK.
Reason
The reason for the removal of the component, or for the asset status change. Select the appropriate reason from the list.
New Status
Select the new status for the component from the list. For example, if the component is being installed after sitting in storage, you may want to change it from a non-operational status to an operational one. The new status is displayed on the asset record.
Holding area asset
The asset group that will act as a parent in the physical hierarchy for the uninstalled component.
Storage location
Type a description of where the removed component will go (for example, “repair shop”).

If you selected Install a component or Remove and install a component, select the Installation tab and complete the following information:
Component
The component that will be installed. You can enter the number of the component asset, or browse to select a component asset in the selector dialog, and then click OK.
Location
The asset’s new component location after the swap takes place. You can enter the number of the location, or browse to select the location in the selector dialog, and then click OK.
If your organization includes multiple sites, the component and component location assets must both be owned by the same site.
New status
Select the new status for the asset from the list. For example, if the asset being worked on is a component that is being installed after sitting in storage, you might want to change the status from a non-operational status to an operational one.
Start of a new asset life
When you change the status of an assets, you can also tell APM to start a new “asset life”.
APM tracks asset indicator readings and costs for each life. For example, you might want to track indicator readings collected after a rebuild separately from before the rebuild.
If this option is selected, the Change manufacture info option is available.
Change Manufacturer’s Info
Whether or not to change the manufacturer’s info when the component is swapped. A check in the box means the new component has different manufacturer’s info.
Restart all triggers
Select this option to restart the counters that are used for triggering preventive maintenance jobs for this asset and then confirm your selection. To restart the counters, click Yes. To cancel, click No.
Note: The indicators that are collected on this asset might be used in triggering rules for this asset or for a different asset. If indicators on this asset are used in triggering rules for other assets, the counters for those triggering rules will also be reset.

If you selected Change manufacturer info on the Installation tab, the Manufacturer tab appears. On this tab, you can enter the appropriate information:

Source of model information
The source of the model information. Your options are:

Define here - the user is required to enter the manufacturer, model, and details.
•
Defined on manufacturer model - the details of the manufacturer and model are extracted from the manufacturer and model information already defined in APM.
Manufacturer
The manufacturer of the installed component. If the manufacturer’s info changed when the components were swapped, you can select the new manufacturer here.
Model
The model of the installed component.
Serial Number
The serial number for this asset or resource. You can enter up to 50 characters.

If you selected Defined here, complete the following additional manufacturer information:
Setting Name
Description
Manufacturer OEM Number
The Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) number of this asset or resource from this manufacturer. You can enter up to 50 characters.
Year of Manufacture
The year that the manufacturer produced this asset or resource.
Expected Life
The expected life for this asset or resource, as stated by the manufacturer.
Expected life in units
The unit of measure for the expected life of the asset or resource, if it is not time-related. For example, miles or tonnes.
Note
Notes about this manufactured product. You can enter up to 255 characters.
6.
To have the component swap processed when the activity report is processed, select the Activity Status tab. Select This activity has been completed, and complete the Occurred on and Completed by boxes.
7.
To install or remove the component now, click Swap Now. The Swap Component dialog appears. Enter the date and time of the swap and click OK.
8.
Click OK to close the Component Activity dialog.
