Defining Base Map Options

Objects in APM configurations can be displayed in a geographical map format.
Each configuration that is displayed as a map consists of a base map layer and optional overlay layers. You can select the pre-defined web service OpenStreetMap™ for your base map, or you can choose another external web service that has been defined by your APM administrator. For information about defining map layers, see Defining Map Layers.
Additional map layers can also be included on the map as overlay layers. For more information about adding layers to maps, see Adding Map Layers to a Configuration.
A configuration cannot be displayed as a map unless the Map Coordinate attribute is included as a table column. It can be hidden.
In the base map marker settings, you can customize the way markers appear and react based on certain situations.
By default, APM uses the first icon in the configuration as its default icon for the map. If you want to use a different icon, you must position the icon as the first icon in the configuration.

This topic describes how to define the base map options for a configuration.

To Define Base Map Options

Open the table configuration that includes the map for which you want to define.

Select the Appearance tab. For example:

In the View As area, select the appropriate options:
Setting Name
Description
Default style
The format in which data is displayed when the system displays the table. If more than one display format is enabled, the user can switch views using the View As icons.
View as table:
View as form:
View as chart:
View as map:
Show search bar
Select this option to turn on the quick search bar for this table configuration, or clear the option to turn it off.
By default, the quick search bar is turned on, but you might want to disable it in some situations. For example, on small lists you might want to hide it to save space.
Pivot table
When this option is selected, the table is pivoted based on the first and second columns. When you pivot a table, you create a grid in which the first column defines the rows and the second column defines the columns.
Note: When a table is charted, the pivoted column overrides what is defined as the X-axis column on the chart’s data properties.

In the View As group, select the Map option. The Map tab appears.

Select the Map tab. For example:

Select one of the following base maps from the list: Google Street Map, Open Transport Map, OSM Simple Map, or Other Web Map.

If you selected Other Web Map, you must select the other web map service from the list.
Note: APM Administrators can define additional map layers via the Customization Center view, Map Layers tab. For more information, see Defining Map Layers.

In the Marker settings group, select the following:
Setting Name
Description
Marker coordinates
The configuration column that includes the map coordinates for markers.
Marker label
The configuration column used to identify marker labels. If blank, markers are not labeled on the map.
Clustering method
If the configuration column used for marker labels is numeric, you must select a clustering method. Options are: Average, Maximum, Minimum, Sum. This aggregate value is appended to the marker label when viewed on the map.
Flash
If selected, the marker will flash on the map. You must also select the icon with which to alternate.
Alternate flashing icon
The icon with which to alternate flashing.

In the Marker appearance group, select the following:
Setting Name
Description
Draw a circle around icon markers
If selected, icon markers will be circled when displayed on the map.
Color source
Select one of the following two options:

Use the following color – You must then select a color to use for the marker icon.
•
Use different colors based on – The background color defined for the selected configuration column will be used to determine the marker color.

Select the Map Layers tab if you want to add other layers as overlays to the map. For more information, see Adding Map Layers to a Configuration.

When you are finished, click OK.
