Customizing UI Controls from the User Interface

You can view the properties of UI control, such as its control type, attribute, relationship, or method, directly from a running thick- or smart-client instance. You can view the name of the view or panel in which the control appears, any local UI text that has been defined, and any states and security applied to the object. On the Control Properties dialog, you can determine if the view or panel is original or has been customized.

If you are logged on to a thick-client instance as an APM administrator, you can also customize the panel or view.

This topic explains how to open the Control Properties dialog and how to open the Forms Editor to customize the view or panel.

To Open the Control Properties Dialog

1.	Navigate to the view and select the control.

2.	Press Ctrl + Shift + click. The Control Properties dialog appears. For example:

3.	You can view more information about the class by double-clicking its icon to open the Class window.

4.	When you have finished reviewing the control, click Close.

To Customize the User Interface

1.	Log on to the product as an APM administrator.

2.	Navigate to the view or panel that you want to customize, and press Ctrl + Shift + click. The Control Properties dialog appears. For example:

Note: If the class has been customized, it resides in the CustomerData system.

3.	To edit the view or panel, click Customize. The Forms Editor appears, for example:

4.	You can now edit the control and then save and close the Forms Editor.

5.	Back in the view where you started, a message appears below the tool bar:

6.	Click the message to display your changes.

7.	When you are finished, close the Control Properties dialog.

Tip: You can right-click the banner of a dialog and select Customize to invoke the Forms Editor directly from the UI, rather than launching the Forms Editor from the Customization Center view. For example:
