Setting up APM for Construction Management

Before you can create construction forms, you must configure Construction Management functionality in APM for your organization. This topic explains the types of options that are available and provides links to detailed information.
If you wish to use Bentley AssetWise Enterprise Interoperability (AWEIS) to exchange data with your CMMS (in this case, SAP Plant Maintenance), contact Bentley Technical Services to set up the integration processes and mappings. For related information, see Activating AssetWise Enterprise Interoperability in APM.

Identify Asset Types for Construction Management

Create or adjust asset types to reflect their roles in construction management:
In the Asset Type window, Specifications tab, you can also select valid nominal and rated voltages and phases for the asset’s specifications
For more information, see **Setting up Asset Types.

Set up Work Types for Construction Management

Create or modify work types to support construction form inspection tasks:
For more information, see **Setting up Work Types.

Set up Asset Program Profiles

When APM generates installation and inspection activities from a construction form, it uses the asset program profiles assigned to the template asset types in the form. The profile specifies asset types and filters for selecting the specific assets to update, as well as the indicators, standard tasks, jobs, solution packages, and documents to assign to assets. The profile also generates a checksheet for each of the assets’ standard tasks.
For more information, see Setting up Asset Program Profiles.

Set up Solution Package Templates

If the work document system is Interop (you are using AWEIS), preplanned work comes from the external system in the form of solution packages (which cannot be created from within APM). You can create solution package templates in APM and then, in the asset program profile detail, link standard task templates to those solution package templates. For each standard task template in a detail, you can specify up to five solution package templates, along with cycles and asset preferences.
For more information, see Setting up Solution Package Templates.

Set up Asset Change Requests

When AWEIS is implemented, asset change requests are used to submit asset information to the CMMS (for example, SAP). Create asset change request types in asset settings so that you can assign them to construction form templates. The Create Asset Change Request process is launched from the construction form to create the asset change requests.
For more information, see Setting up Asset Change Request Types.
Implement statuses to control the process flow. For more information, see Setting up Asset Change Request Statuses.

Define Serial Number Search Profiles

Serial number search profiles format user-entered values to conform with different rules for serial numbers. The profile specifies the case of the text, whether embedded spaces or characters are removed, or the maximum number of characters. When you search for an asset from a construction form, APM formats the serial number that you enter so that it matches the profile before performing the search.
For more information, see Setting up Serial Number Search Profiles.

Define Statuses for Construction Forms

You can use statuses to control the construction form process. They define the actions APM performs when the status is applied. And statuses determine the actions that can be performed on the form or request. For the site, you an define what status is automatically applied in response to an event that occurs.
For more information, see:

Create Construction Form Templates

Construction form templates define the contents and behavior of construction forms based on the types of assets that are installed as part of a construction work order.
Before defining templates, review your organization’s requirements for asset types. If the appropriate UI panel does not exist in the set of panels delivered with the product, a new panel needs to be created. This is the panel that will be presented to the user when an asset of this type is created from a construction form.
For more information, see Setting up Construction Form Templates.

Select Construction Form Defaults and Numbering

You can set the default template and status for the site. New construction forms will show the defaults automatically.
APM automatically assigns unique identifiers to construction forms when they are created. You can set the number of digits and add prefixes and suffixes to document numbers.
For more information, see Setting up Construction Form Defaults and Numbering.

Define Employee Permission Groups

Employee permission groups allow you to control APM users’ access to specific functionality. In the case of status updates for construction forms, group members can only change a form’s status when the form’s current status permits it. The permission group can also determine the statuses available for selection when the form’s status is updated.
Once the permission group has been set up, you can assign it to employee records on sites.
For more information, see Setting up Employee Permission Groups.
Note: We recommend using security profiles to identify employees who have the authority to perform actions. Employee permission groups allow you to fine-tune security by restricting access at a more granular level. For more information, see Security.
