Editing in Object Windows

There are many different types of objects in APM. For example, assets, work orders, resources, and employees are objects. A clue that you are dealing with an object is the presence of an icon.
You can open an object’s window by double-clicking its icon wherever you see that icon, no matter what other objects you have open. For example, if you are viewing the asset hierarchy and want to open a particular asset, you can double-click its icon. The Asset window will appear. There are no limits to the number of objects you can access at one time.
Before you can make changes in an object’s window, you must check it out or enable editing. Checking out an object locks the data so that only you can make changes. If the data was not locked, it would be possible for more than one person to change the same piece of data at the same time. To avoid this, you must lock the data by checking objects out before you make changes, and checking them back in when you are done. Multiple users can view data at the same time without checking out the object.

To Allow Editing in an Object’s Window

1.
2.
On the object menu (for example, Assets), click Allow Editing.
3.
When you are done making changes, click Save on the tool bar. If required information is missing, a message will appear. The system saves your changes when it checks in the object successfully.
