Starting a New Asset Life

When you change the status of a maintainable, system, sub system, or component asset, you can also tell APM to start a new “asset life” for the asset. For example, you can do this if an asset has been rebuilt. APM can then track asset indicator readings and costs after the rebuild separately from prior to the rebuild.
If you start a new asset life for an asset, you can tell APM to reset the counters that trigger standard jobs. For example, you might do this if an asset has been restored to a like-new condition. When you reset the triggering counters for an asset, APM does the following:
When you indicate that a status change marks the beginning of a new maintainable, system, sub system, or component life, you can enter new manufacturer information about the asset or you can modify any part of the manufacturer information. You can enter the manufacturer, model, OEM number, expected life, year of manufacture, and notes.
In addition, for each cumulative indicator owned by the asset, APM takes a snapshot of the indicator’s life-to-date value and asset-life-to-date value at the time the status changed. For example, if you change the status of a truck transmission, APM records the life-to-date value of the transmission’s mileage indicator, as well as the value accumulated up to that time during its current life.

To Start a New Asset Life

1.
From the Asset window, select the Asset menu, then Change Asset Status. The Change Asset Status dialog appears.
Tip: You can also right-click an asset in the hierarchy and select Change Asset Status to change the status of an asset without opening the asset.
2.
Select This status change marks the beginning of a new life for this asset. When you close the dialog, APM creates a new asset life for the asset and closes out the previous life.
3.
To reset the triggering counters, select the Restart all counters for triggering preventive maintenance jobs. A message dialog appears asking you to confirm that you want to reset all counters and warning you that this action cannot be undone. To reset the counters, click Yes. To cancel this option, click No.
4.
Click OK to close the Change Asset Status dialog.
5.
On the asset’s Properties view, Manufacturer tab, select the Manufacturer tab.
6.
7.
8.
Click Save. APM changes the asset status to the one that you have selected and creates an asset status history record.
