Setting up a Component Hierarchy for an Assembly

For each assembly in the physical hierarchy for your site, you will need to set up a component hierarchy. The component hierarchy shows the component locations that belong to the assembly. This hierarchy is the second hierarchy for a set of parallel hierarchies; the component locations for the component are included under the assembly’s location in the physical hierarchy and again in the component hierarchy. Both sets of component locations must have corresponding match codes.
Note: To improve system performance while you are working on assets and hierarchies, you can temporarily turn off the automatic updating of hierarchy locations.
1.
From the Site window, select the Assets view and then the Listing tab.
2.
Open the component asset that represents the main assembly or create a new component asset for the assembly. APM opens the asset and displays the Properties view. The component cannot be installed in a location while you create its hierarchy.
3.
Select the asset’s Hierarchies view. The first tab on this view shows the location of the selected asset in the physical hierarchy for the site.
4.
Right-click the selected asset and select New Child. APM creates and opens a new asset record. Enter the information necessary to create a component location for the assembly. Be sure to select Component Location as the asset classification.
5.
On the new asset’s Component tab, select This component location has a matching location in a parallel hierarchy.
6.
Enter a code in the Match code box. This code must be the same as the match code for the corresponding component location in the physical hierarchy (where the assembly will be installed).
7.
8.
Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each of the components in the assembly.
