Changing an Asset’s Primary Function 

The primary function is the main reason why a physical asset or system is acquired by its owner or user. A primary function is an asset’s most important task. For example, the primary function of a truck could be to transport freight. Although the truck might have other functions (for example, to meet emission control regulations), it has just one primary function.

The first function defined for an asset, usually in a strategy development analysis, is automatically designated as the primary function. If you enter two or more functions and decide that a later one is the major function, you can change the asset’s primary function.

To Change an Asset’s Primary Function

1.	From the site’s Assets view, open the asset.

2.	Make sure that editing is enabled.

3.	Select the Strategy Development view, Strategy Development tab, and then the Functions tab. This tab displays the asset’s primary function and functions. For example:

4.	In the Primary function list, select a function.

5.	Save the asset and close the window.
