Adding Indicator Templates to a Task Template

An indicator reading is a data sample from an asset indicator taken at a specific moment in time. You can add a list of indicators that should be read when standard tasks based on the task template are performed. For example, with every vehicle oil check, you might want to take an odometer reading or specify the condition of the oil.
To do this, you will add indicator templates to the task template. Asset indicators cannot be used on task templates because task templates are not designed for a specific asset. Similarly, you cannot set up an inspection route that selects indicators to read dynamically, based on route assets and matching criteria.
When you create a standard task from the task template, APM tries to map the indicator templates on the task template to the asset indicators on the selected asset and, optionally, its descendants. For example, the indicator template “temperature” would be mapped to the “temperature” indicator on the asset. If an appropriate indicator does not already exist on the asset, APM creates a new asset indicator and adds it to the new standard task.
You can apply any changes that you make to the task template to the standard tasks that are based on it. For example, if you add a new indicator template to the task template, you can add the indicator to all of the standard tasks that are based on the task template. For more information about applying changes, see Editing a Task Template.
This section explains how to add indicator templates to an existing task template.
