About Settings and Value Lists

Initializing your APM system involves entering settings. Most settings are accessed through the site’s or the enterprise’s Administration menu. Maintenance settings can also be set on the site window by selecting the appropriate view and then the Settings tab. Some settings are details required for the system to function correctly. Other settings document business decisions about how you will use the APM software and implement your reliability process.
Value lists contain information that can be used by other objects in the system (such as assets or work orders). Site types and asset statuses are examples of value lists. Users can open a value list object in its own dialog to view or edit the settings. Most value lists are entered during implementation, although you can add to them at any time. Like other site settings, value lists can be accessed through the site’s Administration menu or from the Settings tab on the appropriate view.
Typically, you will work with a Bentley Systems consultant to determine which settings and value lists are required for your organization. The consultant will guide you in how to correctly enter the settings.
Note: APM supports text in two or more languages in a single database. Value lists, such as asset types, work types, and adjustments reasons, can be maintained in more than one language, as well as data such as resource and supplier names. For information about enabling the Multi-Language Data feature and translating data, see Setting up Multi-Language Data.
