Minimum alarm notification ranking

You can have parent assets display indicator alarms in the indicator monitoring panel. To prevent users from being inundated with alarm displays, you can control how high the alarms are pushed up the physical hierarchy. To do this, you will need to: • Enter alarm types for the indicator states (for example, Normal, Early Warning, and Critical). The alarm type describes the severity of the state of an indicator, and ranks it numerically relative to the other states. • Enter numeric rankings for your asset consequence priorities • Enter a minimum alarm notification ranking To calculate the alarm notification ranking, APM multiplies the alarm type ranking by the asset’s consequence priority ranking. Whenever this ranking is equal to or higher than the minimum alarm notification ranking, APM displays the alarm on the parent asset. For example, you might have: • Alarm Types: Early Warning (1), Alarm (5), and Critical (10) • Asset Consequence Priorities: Normal (1) and Critical (5) • Minimum Alarm Notification Ranking: (5) An Early Warning on a Normal asset (alarm notification: 1 x 1 = 1) is not be displayed on the parent asset, or on any other asset that is higher in the hierarchy. However, for an Early Warning on a Critical asset (alarm notification: 1 x 5 = 5) APM looks at the priority ranking of the parent asset and calculates the alarm notification ranking for that asset. If the parent asset is also a critical asset, APM displays the alarm on the parent asset, and then calculates the alarm notification ranking for its parent in the hierarchy. When APM reaches a parent asset with an alarm notification ranking below the minimum ranking, the alarm is not be pushed any higher in the hierarchy. To prevent alarms from being displayed in the top assets in the physical hierarchy, you should assign consequence priorities with low numeric rankings to those assets.

Create a work order

You can pick a default work type for the site. APM will use this default work type when a user acknowledges an indicator alarm by creating a request for work, work order, or work request.

Mark as monitoring

Select this option to allow users to acknowledge indicator alarms by selecting the Monitoring option. If this option is cleared, Monitoring will not be available in the Acknowledge Indicator Alarm dialog.

Mark as incorrect alarm

Select this option to allow users to acknowledge indicator alarms by marking the alarm as being incorrect. If this option is cleared, the Incorrect alarm option will not be available in the Acknowledge Indicator Alarm dialog.

Mark as incorrect reading

Select this option to allow users to acknowledge indicator alarms by marking readings as being incorrect. If this option is cleared, the Incorrect reading option will not be available in the Acknowledge Indicator Alarm dialog. However, users will still be able to mark readings that did not cause alarms as being incorrect.

Mark as fixed during inspection

Select this option to allow users to acknowledge indicator alarms by marking them as being fixed during inspection. If this option is cleared, the Fixed during inspection option will not be available in the Acknowledge Indicator Alarm dialog. However, users will still be able to mark an alarm as fixed when entering indicator readings.

Indicator alarm state

Select whether the alarm state of an indicator reflects the alarm state of its most recent reading or that of its most severe unacknowledged alarm. • Most recent reading - Whenever a new reading is processed for an indicator that has an unacknowledged alarm, the alarm state of the indicator is re-evaluated and either raised or lowered depending on the value of the new reading. The previous unacknowledged reading is marked as missed and the new reading, assuming it’s an alarm, becomes the reading that requires acknowledgment. In situations where the latest reading is a normal one, the indicator alarm is turned off altogether and no acknowledgment is required. • Most severe unacknowledged alarm - An indicator’s alarm level can only increase in severity as subsequent more severe readings are entered. It will not be turned off or reduced in severity by a subsequent normal or less severe reading. Instead, the alarm remains in effect until all of the unacknowledged alarm readings for the indicator have been explicitly acknowledged. When new readings are entered, previously entered unacknowledged readings are not marked as missed but remain with an acknowledgment status of either “waiting for acknowledgment” or “Re-acknowledgment required”, as the case may be.
