Symptom A symptom is a keyword or phrase that summarizes the evidence that an operator, engineer, or technician would see when the failure occurs or is about to occur. For example, “trip-alarm sounds” could be defined as a symptom. Symptoms are assigned to MTA2, RCM2, and RBI failure modes to help maintenance personnel track asset faults to the failure modes that could cause them.
