The descriptive name of the degradation type.
For RBI analysis, three types of degradation are usually identified:

Confidence questionnaire
When the degradation type is selected in a failure mode, confidence statements are displayed so that the analyst can evaluate the amount of confidence that the asset’s maintenance processes and equipment history inspire.

Default confidence factor
The confidence factor that is selected by default when this degradation type is selected in a failure mode risk analysis. A default confidence factor is only available when the degradation type does not support confidence questions.

When this option is enabled, the user can change the confidence factor that is selected by default when this degradation type is chosen in a failure mode risk analysis.

Supports inspection factors
When the degradation type is selected in a failure mode, the inspection factor is available.
An inspection factor is the proportion of the normal frequency to be used when calculating indicator collection dates. For example, an inspection factor of “0.5” indicates that the indicator should be collected at half its normal frequency (for example, 1 year instead of 2 years).

When the degradation type is selected in a failure mode, the inspection strategies are available.
On the failure mode, the Inspection strategy box displays the strategy assigned to the combination of degradation type, criticality, and confidence factor.

Theoretical rate
When this option is selected, the Theoretical rate box is available in the Failure Mode window, Degradation Rates tab. The analyst can add a rate for informational purposes.
Theoretical rate is the estimated rate of deterioration based on expert opinion, equipment specifications, or historical data. It can differ from the asset design rate based on the analysts’ experience and expectations.
