Work order

The work order that owns the predecessor task. By default, the system enters the work order that owns the current task. You can select any open work order at the same site. To select another work order click Browse.

Title

The name or short description of this item. You can enter up to 250 characters.

Task

Select the task that is the predecessor to this task. For example, if you are creating a relationship from task 3 (successor) to task 2 (predecessor), select task 2 in the list. You can select any task that: • Is open • Is owned by the selected work order You cannot select a task that is already dependent on the current task, or that would create a relationship that would result in a circular dependency. For example, if task 2 is dependent on task 1, and task 3 dependent on task 2, you cannot make task 1 dependent on task 3.

Asset to Work On

The name and number of the asset that needs maintenance. If your organization includes multiple sites, the asset to work on and the work order task must be owned by the same site.

Hierarchy location

A hierarchy location is a string of letters and numbers that identifies where the asset is in the physical hierarchy. APM constructs a full hierarchy location using the code that you enter in the Hierarchy code box joined with the hierarchy codes for its parent/ancestors. The codes are separated by a period (.). Hierarchy locations are updated whenever the asset or one of its ancestors is moved within the hierarchy (or if a hierarchy code changes).

Work Order Status

The current status of the work order. At various stages in the life cycle, APM may assign the following statuses to a task or work order: New, Work Started, Closed. Work planners may also select an appropriate status for the task or work order: Needs (More) Planning, In Planning, Planned, or Work Started. Each task on a work order may have a different status. When work order tasks have different statuses, the work order will show the earliest status of its tasks. For example, if task 1 has a Work Started status, but task 2 has an In Planning status, the work order status will be In Planning.

Planned start date

The date and time that the work order task is planned to begin. This date provides information to the people scheduling and working on the task, and may affect how the task is scheduled. The system enters a default start date and time based on the current scheduling relationships for the task (listed on the Dependencies tab).

Planned completion date

The current planned completion date for this work order task. This should be the date that you expect the task will be finished. When the work order has the status “Planned”, “Scheduled”, or “Work in progress”, the date can only be edited if you click the Change Date button. This date provides information to the people scheduling and working on the task.

Type

Select the type of predecessor relationship: • Finish-to-start (FS): The successor task cannot start until the predecessor is finished • Start-to-start (SS): The successor task cannot start until the predecessor starts • Finish-to-finish (FF): The successor task finishes at the same time as the predecessor • Start-to-finish (SF): The successor task finishes at the same time as the predecessor starts

Lag

Enter any required lag time for the relationship. You can use lags to offset the start or completion time of two linked tasks. For example, if two tasks have a finish-to-start relationship with a four-hour lag, task B will start four hours after the completion time of task A. To overlap tasks, enter a negative lag time. Using the same example, entering “-2” hours sets task two to start 2 hours before the completion time of task one.

Work Order Number

The work order number. APM automatically generates this number to ensure that every work order has a unique number. You can override the default number if necessary. If this box is left blank or if the number is not unique, an error message will appear.
