Unit identification Serialized inventory resource units that are linked to an asset are uniquely identified by a value from the linked asset. You can use the asset's asset number, name or serial number to identify the inventory unit. If the name or serial number on an asset record is blank, the asset number is used instead. When a resource unit is not linked to an asset, it is assigned a system-generated identifier. You can change the system-generated identifier to a more meaningful value, such as a serial number. Unit identification is used for component assets linked to repairable spares and for maintainable assets linked to tools. See Also
