Lower Limit

The lower limit for this indicator state. When an indicator reading falls between, or is equal to the lower and upper limits, the indicator will have this state. For example, the range for a Warning state for a temperature indicator may be between 20 and 25 degrees. If an indicator reading of 22 degrees is entered, a Warning will be triggered for the indicator.

Upper Limit

The upper limit for this indicator state. APM calculates this number based on the lower limits of the states above and below this state. When an indicator reading falls between, or is equal to the lower and upper limits, the indicator will have this state. For example, the range for a Warning state for a temperature indicator may be between 20 and 25 degrees. If an indicator reading of 22 degrees is entered, a Warning will be triggered for the indicator.

This option will be selected if an alarm will be triggered when an indicator reading falls within the range for this state. Usually, this option will not be selected for the Normal state.

Notification Option

How you want to be notified when this indicator enters this alarm state. There are four choices: • Notification is not required: You do not want APM to notify you when the indicator is in this alarm state. • Notify via email: You want APM to send an email to the employees you select when the indicator is in this alarm state. • Notify via favorite: You want APM to create a favorite for the employees you select when the indicator is in this alarm state. • Notify via email and favorite: You want APM to send an email to and create a favorite for the employees you select when the indicator is in this alarm state.

If you wish to associate a failure mode with the indicator state, select it from the list. If failure records are created automatically when an alarm is acknowledged, the records display this failure mode.

Asset number

The number used to identify the asset. When you create an asset, APM automatically enters a unique asset number, but you can change it if necessary. Each asset must have a unique number not more than 50 characters long. If this box is left blank or if the number is not unique, an error message appears.

PF Interval

The PF interval is used to indicate the remaining time until a potential or partial failure escalates to a full failure. You can do one of the following to set the PF interval on generated failure records for this state: • Set the PF interval directly by entering a value and unit of measure in the PF interval boxes. You can do this if a failure mode is not selected or to override the selected failure mode’s PF interval. • Use the default behavior and do not enter a PF interval. The selected failure mode’s PF interval is used and the state’s alarm type rules are applied. For example, the alarm type could specify that the failure’s PF interval is set to the failure mode’s PF interval minus the indicator’s frequency. The alarm type settings are shown for information purposes.

When failure mode optimization requires Isograph Availability Workbench, this attribute is mapped to the inspection task’s PF interval property in AWB.

Failure Severity

If failure records are created automatically, you can select the default failure severity from the list. When the alarm is acknowledged, the user can change the failure severity. Three severity levels are supported: • Potential: a condition that has been noticed that would result in an actual failure if the problem is not resolved. The actual failure has not yet occurred. Potential failures are normally reported as the result of an indicator reading that has raised a warning alarm against the asset. • Partial: the asset’s performance has decreased to a point where it is no longer performing one of its functions at the specified levels. The asset is still functioning. • Total: the asset’s performance has decreased to a point where the asset is no longer performing at its required level. The asset has completely failed.
