Trigger Based On

The rule clause can be triggered based on the current value of the indicator or based on the current state of the indicator. For example, for a temperature indicator, the rule clause might be triggered when the indicator has a current value of 30 degrees or when the indicator is in a “warning” state. Indicator Value: The rule clause will be true when the current indicator value fits within the relationship identified by the clause’s operator. For example, if the clause states to trigger when the value is equal to or greater than 50, the rule clause will be true when the indicator has a value of 50 or higher. Indicator State: The rule clause will be true when the indicator state is the same as the state selected for the rule clause.

Operator

The operator used in this rule clause. There are six possible operators: Equals, Not Equal to, Greater Than or Equal to, Less Than or Equal to, Greater Than, and Less Than. For example, for a temperature indicator the rule clause might be true when the indicator value is “Greater than or equal to” 30 degrees. If the rule clause is based on indicator states, the rule clause might be true when the indicator has a state that is “Greater than or equal to Warning”. In this case, the clause will be true when the indicator is in a Warning state or in any other state with a severity greater than the Warning state, such as an Alarm state.

The value of the indicator reading that will cause this rule clause to be true. For example, for a temperature indicator, the rule clause might be true when greater than or equal to 30 degrees.

Indicator State

The state that the indicator must be in for the clause to be evaluated as true. For example, the clause might be triggered when the indicator is in a “critical alarm” state.

Relationship to Preceding Clause

The relationship between this clause and the preceding clause. You can choose AND or OR. If you select AND, the clauses before and after the AND must both be true for the triggering rule to be true. If you select OR, only one of the clauses must be true for the triggering rule to be true. Brackets are supported implicitly in APM. If you have more than two clauses, APM will assume that there are brackets around the parts of the triggering rule on either side of the OR operators. For example, if the triggering rule says: Clause 1 AND Clause 2 OR Clause 3 AND Clause 4, APM would evaluate it as: (Clause 1 AND Clause 2) OR (Clause 3 AND Clause 4).
